I snapped this photo of our cat Deva the other night and it reminded me how much fun we have shooting pictures of cats and dogs - especially rescue animals. My wife is a big reason why North Star Dog Rescue has continued to rescue dogs and cats, finding them a loving and supportive home. Over the past several years, the number of rescued dogs is in the hundreds. That's hundreds of dogs that would have been killed (euthanized is too nice a word) and which instead are thriving and bringing joy to their families. I wish I could say that my job had done the world this much good.
We adopted the first dog we fostered and renamed her Brandy. She is a constant joy to us and I do believe she is having a good time as well. Since then we've fostered and placed Prince, Roxy, Esko and most recently Dottie the Demure. More will pass through our home on their way to permanent and loving families I'm sure and that brings me joy.
Deva the cat (top) came with her evil sister Nina from the Upper Valley Humane Society back in the fall of 2000. She has taught us much but we still have more to learn from her. It's an ongoing challenge to try to capture the essence of these animals in photographs and one I enjoy immensely.
